Zilingo Introduces SheWorkz Thailand - Enabling, Empowering, and Inspiring as Many Women as Possible & Committed to empowering women in all walks, Zilingo signs UN-backed Women’s Empowerment Principles

Zilingo Editorial Team
Bangkok, 10 March 2020 - In celebration of International Women’s Day, Zilingo joins over 2,000 other business leaders around the world by signing the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), developed by UN Global Compact as a sign of commitment to empowering women in the workplace, marketplace, and community. These principles are the result of a collaboration between the UN Global Compact and UN Women and are adapted from the Calvert Women's Principles® to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Zilingo Thailand is the second country to launch the SheWorkz program after Zilingo Indonesia in 2019, and signing the program is Narissa Limpanathon, Head of Social Impact, Zilingo Thailand . During the first phase of the program, SheWorkz plans to reach women across the country, identifying prospective participants from the Northern and Southern regions. Thereafter, Zilingo plans to use its own business experience and assist these women in need by providing access to business knowledge, procurement materials, marketing, logistic services, and funding. Furthermore, as part of the program, SheWorkz Thailand is also exploring factory assessment in regards to gender equality, sustainability, and safety checks.
Zilingo is consistently working on aligning the commercial view of the fashion value chain with a purpose-led vision of improving the planet, and the lives of the people impacted by the fashion supply industry. At its core, Sheworkz’s mission is to impact the lives of as many as possible by making the fashion value chain fair, connected and transparent and paving the way towards creating greater financial independence and success for women. Through necessary skill development and financing opportunities, the initiative is also about creating decentralized factories for women, giving them opportunities to enter the workforce without abandoning their own personal obligations at home that might limit them from traditional jobs.
Amping up the International Women’s Day event, Zilingo has also organised a panel discussion entitled “WOMEN. EMPOWERMENT. ECONOMY” featuring inspiring female figures like; Assawee Kodaka from FolkCharm Crafts; Katja Freiwald from UN Women; Jodie MacCartney from Second Chance Bangkok and Narissa Limpanathon from Zilingo. The panel touched upon topics concerning women empowerment and sustainability in Thailand, and across Asia.
In Indonesia, SheWorkz has partnered with the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs. Together, they identify, educate and provide funds to women in need, on top of providing vocational training as well as giving them access to resources while supporting them to become financially independent. Moving forward, Zilingo hopes to expand the SheWorkz program to other countries across Asia, such as India, Bangladesh, and Vietnam, and aims to enable 5,000 women entrepreneurs by 2021.
